INFORMACION DISTANCE MATCH SAINT-PETERSBURG vs. PARIS May 28 2003, at the day of celebration of the 300 years anniversary of Saint-Petersburg, will take place the first in the history match in distance chess between Saint-Petersburg team and French club "NAO chess club". The technology of distance chess and the electronic equipment (chess boards and clocks) are developed by the Saint-Petersburg Company "Shahcom". The opponents will be located on the long distance between each other. The Saint-Petersburg team will play in the S.-Petersburg's studio on the Nevsky avenue, 60, meanwhile the French one in its club "NAO chess club" in Paris. The moves by players will be transmitted on the opponent's clock over the internet and the video images of the partners and spectators along a special video channel. For the Saint-Petersburg team will play: 1. Peter Svidler - Grandmaster, three-times Champion of Russia, many times Champion of the World Chess Olympiads 2. Konstantin Sakaev - Grandmaster, Champion of Russia, many times Champion of the World Chess Olympiads. 3. Victor Korchnoi - Grandmaster, took part three times in the finals of the World Chamionships. 4. Evgeny Alekseev - the youngest Grandmaster in Russia. The commentators in Saint-Petersburg's studio - Anatoly Karpov and Boris Spassky. For the "NAO chess club" team will play: 1. Etienne Bacrot - Grandmaster, four-times champion of France. 2. Igor-Alexandre Nataf - Grandmaster. 3. Laurent Fressinet - Grandmaster. 4. Sergey Karjakin - the youngest Grandmaster in the World (12 years old) The commentator in Paris's studio - Joel Lautier. The chief arbiter - Geurt Gijssen Each player will play with his opponent only one game. The time control is 15 minutes + 15 seconds per game. The games will be played one after another and all participants free of the play will be able to annotate the games, to discuss the course of the match along with the commentators and spectators, to give the interview to the journalists. In the playing studios one will be able to watch the games and annotations on the screens. The match will be broadcast online on the sportive channels with the professional comments and later will be shown as a film on the national channels in Russia and France. The chess games and video coverage about the match one will be able to watch online on the site of the Shahcom Company "Russian chess" www.ruschess.com. All the leading world chess sites will be able to translate online the match for free. The match is a part of the official arrangements devoted to the 300 years anniversary of Saint-Petersburg. The distinguished guests which will be invited on the celebration will attend at the event. On the boards of the contenders will be reproduced the same game, played on a distance. - the players will play chess with a standard chess pieces on the electronic boards, the destiny of which is to automatically recognize the players' moves. - each player will receive the opponent's move on his own chess clock over the internet meanwhile the own player's move will be transmitted to his opponent after the movement of the piece and pressing the clock's button. - after getting the move the player has to reproduce it on his chessboard while his time goes by and after that to make his own move. - the chessboards control if the moves reproduced by contenders are correct. - the draw offer is carried out by the special button on the clock. - the resignation - by the pushing of the button "stop" on the clock and removing the King from the board. - the licensed arbiters of the both clubs will look after the games. The Shahcom Company intends to provide the competition in distance chess where will take part the leading chess clubs all over the World which will be provided with our equipment.
